MACC to reveal more on Minister's aide's arrest
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will issue a statement tomorrow on the progress of its investigation into the arrest of a former political secretary to a senior minister, Hasbie Satar, caught with RM2 million at his apartment in Teluk Air Tawar, Butterworth, last week.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdull told The Malay Mail this via a text message.
However, he declined to confirm nor deny when asked if the minister would also be questioned.
We also learnt that the minister in the Prime Minister's Department is most likely to be interviewed by the commission "in the next few days" as a routine procedure for investigators probing graft cases.
Meanwhile, another aide to the minister concern told The Paper That Cares there was no indication that the minister will be called up by MACC anytime soon.
It was reported on Monday that Hasbie Satar, the political secretary to the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop had tendered his resignation effective Sunday.
The one-paragraph statement did not state the reason for the resignation. He was made political secretary shortly after the 2008 general elections.
It was also reported yesterday that MACC officers had raided an apartment in Teluk Air Tawar, Butterworth, at 3.30pm last Thursday and detained the political secretary.
The raiding team seized cash in bundles of RM5, RM10, RM50 and RM100 notes totalling about RM2 million.
Two luxury cars were also seized in the raid while the political secretary’s bank accounts have been frozen. It was also reported that investigators had identified several other people linked to the case and would also be calling them soon to assist in investigations.
The political secretary is alleged to have amassed a fortune for acting as a middleman for arranging the approval of projects for certain individuals.
